In the early 2000s, Brighton was a city brimming with a unique and vibrant indie music scene, a place where the air was thick with the promise of artistic expression and the potential for greatness. As a guitarist in one of these bands, Electrelane, I was fortunate to be a part of this incredible moment in time. The rents rose, and the city's independent spirit began to fade. Yet, despite these changes, the spirit of Brighton's music scene lives on. The city's network of venues, clubs, and record stores, though diminished, continues to create the conditions for the next wave of artists to emerge. Brighton's strength lies in its diversity and difference, and it is this that continues to inspire and foster new talent. In my opinion, the city's unique atmosphere and the sense of community that once existed are what truly make Brighton's music scene so special.
